Student Motivation in CORONAPOLIS: Effects of Transactional Distance Perceptions on EFL Undergraduate Students’ Motivation

The concept of Transactional Distance (TD) experienced in distance education has been recorded as a focal point many studies examining its effects various dimensions different courses. However, there is scarcity research on TD relation to learner motivation language learning. This exploratory case study investigated perceptions EFL (English Foreign Language) undergraduates participating courses held at Turkish university within the boundaries CORONAPOLIS, an imaginary city which under threat and destructive Covid-19 pandemic. Specifically, this examined 87 students. data were collected through participants’ informal self-reports open-ended questions. results content analysis showed that participants had varying TD; dialogue, structure autonomy. also they motivational experiences their perceptions. In light results, some pedagogical implications are made.
